Link to pictures of the Tidal Beat Drummers taken by Lynn Flemming on May 29.

On May 29, 2012, the Tidal Beat Drummers were asked to take part in the IWK Kermesse. We said yes, and performed a 20-minute set on stage after only two practices. We had a lot of fun. Some of us were performing for the first time ever!

Lynn Fleming took lots of pictures. Here’s the link to have a look:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/lynnsphotos/sets/72157624038511521/

Who are the Tidal Beat Drummers? People who signed up for a 4-week series of workshops in the spring of 2010 to create rhythms which were a blend of spontaneous and orchestrated.

With over 200 delegates, this was a major drum circle. I had lots of help in packing and unpacking the trailer, transporting instruments to and from the room, and setting up and tearing down the circle. The drum circle itself was fantastic…lots of people had loads of fun. The main presenter for the conference was Lea Brovedani, and she created a video of the event. There are some drum circle shots toward the end. Here’s the link, hope you enjoy it. A big thank you to Lea for this video.

Innovative drum dances that will put your soul in motion. Experience the power of the drum through freestyle movement.

I also facilitate innovative moving rhythms drum dance workshops. I drum intuitively, matching the spirit of the group, and people move to the rhythms. These customized workshops are a way to put your soul in motion and experience the healing power of the drum through freestyle movement.

Inner Rhythms

The Inner Rhythms drum dance is an uplifting blend of drum and dance. We use freestyle dance with a “Wave” focus to discover and celebrate our inner rhythms. It is a moving meditation, spiritual practice, and workout for body and soul.

This is my original drum dance, inspired by Gabrielle Roth. She is a great teacher and pioneer in the field of movement as meditation and spiritual practice. Her books include Maps to Ecstasy, Sweat Your Prayers, and Connections. She has produced many CDs to complement her “5 Rhythms”TM approach to ecstatic dance. In November, 2002, I danced with Gabrielle at her Heartbeat workshop in Toronto, which was a life-changing experience for me..

Spirit Wave

In the Spirit Wave drum dance, we use lying, sitting, standing, and walking meditations to lead us into movement as an exploration of soul.

This drum dance is inspired by my two-month experience at Esalen in Big Sur, California. During the first month, I studied indigenous healing methods with Nan Moss and David Corbin. In the second month, I studied ecstatic dance with Vinn Marti. I also attended many dance classes with Ellen Watson. Vinn and Ellen are international dance teachers whose work has been influenced by Gabrielle Roth.

Medicine Rhythms

In the Medicine Rhythms drum dance, we seek the wisdom available to us from Mother Earth and rely on the healing power of the drum to connect us more deeply with our own inner wisdom, each other, and the creative spirit of life.

This drum dance is inspired by my personal work with an African (Dagara) Medicine Wheel. I first read about this in a book by Malidome Somé called Of Water and the Spirit and eventually realigned my own philosophy to more closely match this Medicine Wheel.

Every Tidal Beat Drum Circle can be tailored to meet your group’s specific needs! We offer custom workshops to fit the occasion.

Why do groups use drum circles?

One of the main reasons is to have fun! Drum circles unite us as we create in-the-moment rhythms with each other. There is no wrong way to do it. Everyone can play!

Other reasons to use drum circles:

To celebrate

To improve well-being

To reduce stress

To build community

To empower women, community or health groups

To inspire and delight seniors

To deepen connections with self and others

To enjoy a spiritual experience

To support each other and provide camaraderie

To share our drum circle spirit!

What kinds of groups use drum circles?

Drum circles are perfect for any community or special interest groups looking for something different. For example:

Groups of professional women, such as study groups

Groups with a specific health focus, such as cancer survivors

Empowerment groups, such as women’s centers at universities

Social activist groups, such as the Raging Grannies

Clubs or groups involving seniors, such as Red Hatters

Clubs or groups in nursing homes or special care programs providing activities for the well elderly

Focus groups or clubs associated with churches

Spirituality groups operating independently from churches

Summer day camps for kids or other groups involving youth

Various special interest groups such as sports teams, members of clubs, private gathering of friends…
